HCK Damascus 1085 &15N20 Carved Bronze 14 CT Gold Banding
This truly outstanding one of a kind knife was made to fit with a series of other knives themes. It presents a frontier theme in the overall construction, from blade style to accents.
This large bowie style knife is truly unique in its construction. I forged the blade, it is a 300 layer mix of 1084 and 15N20. The guard was carved out of a solid piece of bronze and then textured, so as to add another dimension to the knife. The handle is created from mammoth ivory to resemble a whiskey barrel. The individual staves where cut out, sanded and then heat bent to the shape of the underlying barrel shaped Micarta. Micarta was chosen for stability of construction. The staves where then fitted and glued onto it. 2.5 mm x 1mm thick gold wire, a total of 15 gram, was bend to fit the barrel shape and joint less soldered. The rings are friction fit onto the barrel and are additionally secured with a dap of glue. The pommel is in the shape of a cowboy type spur, commonly used for riding. The 6 star rondel was meticulously ground and finished to balance with the overall knife. The pin the rondel is rotating on is of heat treated steel and has nylon washers on both sides, for smooth rotation. The pin holes have been covered by red garnets. A hefty, but well balanced piece. Rattlesnake Skin Overlaid Cowhide Sheath accompanies this piece.
