Custom Photography

I provide professional knife photography and digital editing services for makers, collectors, and enthusiasts. Visit the news section to view work published in magazines and books.

Beyond knives, I also work in wildlife and outdoor photography. A macro image was a runner-up in Canadian Geographic Magazine, with additional work featured in books and award-recognized collections. View my broader portfolio at www.haslinger.ca.

If you have a knife you’d like professionally photographed or edited — for documentation, editorial submission, social media, or print — please complete the form below and attach any relevant images.

In-Studio Photography

In-studio photography is currently available within Canada only. Studio images consistently provide higher quality than mobile or casual photography. I use a full-frame camera system, professional strobe lighting, calibrated color workflow, and controlled backgrounds to accurately present each knife’s materials and finish.

Post-processing is kept minimal and intentional to ensure accurate, print-ready results.

Shipping & Insurance: Clients are responsible for shipping and insuring items during transit. Once photography and editing are complete, items are carefully returned to and as per clients instructions.

Pricing & Digital Editing

All pricing is in Canadian Dollars (CAD). USD and EUR payments are available on request.

Digital Editing

Professional digital editing enhances images while preserving the knife’s authentic condition. Editing focuses on exposure, color balance, contrast, and tonal consistency to ensure accurate, clean, and publication-ready results.

Authenticity Notice: Editing does not remove, conceal, or alter cracks, scratches, patina, wear, or other manufacturing or age-related characteristics. These details are intentionally preserved to ensure a truthful visual record.

This approach is suitable for editorial submission, insurance documentation, and collector reference.

Digital Editing Pricing

  • $100 CAD – Single image (knife and sheath count as one image)

You will receive these files via secure download link or email after the project is completed and final payment has been re ceived.

Editorial Submission (Included)

Submission is typically made to multiple publication per project unless otherwise discussed.

Editorial submission is included as part of the service. I prepare and submit images digitally to appropriate knife-related publications, following their submission guidelines.

Final publication decisions rest with the magazine and I have no controll over this.

Preparing Your Knife for Photography

  • Background: Use a plain, light-colored, texture fee surface (e.g., a sheet of white paper). Avoid reflective or patterned surfaces.
  • Exposure: Don't photograph in sunlight, rather early morning or later in the day just inside a window. This preserves metal highlights and prevents washout.
  • Space: Leave adequate space about 2" or so around the knife to avoid clipping edges.
  • Focus: Keep the entire knife sharp. Focus choices depends on your devise.
  • Accessories: Include sheath or other relevant items if desired. Rather take 2 images then one.
  • Accessories: Take multiple images from slightly diferent angles.
  • Lighting: Diffuse natural light works best; avoid harsh direct light that causes glare or deep shadows.
